Review of Parallel Life (2010) by Steve W — 25 Aug 2012
The movie has an intriguing enough concept to where you actually want to watch through to at least find out what's happening. That's really about all it is though, just a concept. If you're looking for good storytelling here, well then fuck you.
The story is, quite frankly, an absolute goddamn mess with a lot of dumb and senseless twists. Intriguing concept aside, I don't get why the reason was to have the main character's life be exactly like that of a judge 30 year prior.
Why would this be done? It doesn't really serve any purpose other than to try and have a unique concept to what is on its own a generic thriller. Given how it plays out I'd still consider it pretty generic.
Of course you still have your melodramatic scene, but it's relatively short compared to other Korean movies. So really, outside of an intriguing concept that simply doesn't pay out in the end, and some decent acting, there's really not much to this movie.
The story doesn't make sense, the end is flat, and the concept doesn't make up for the fact that this is just like every other generic thriller out there with nothing to distinguish itself from the pack.
