Review of Paradise Now (2005) by Cédric P — 13 Aug 2008
This is definitely one of my favorite films. Too often in the Western world (And especially the United States) do we dismiss the Palestinians as murderers and 'terrorists,' failing to understand them and therefore the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The movie, however, does not seem to take sides, although it is taken from a Palestinian perspective. The message speaks clearly: There is no simple solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and there is no clear 'good guy' and 'bad guy.
' It is a must-see for anyone attempting to understand this political conflict. As Abu-Assad, the director of the movie, put it: "The film is an artistic point of view of that political issue.
The politicians want to see it as black and white, good and evil, and art wants to see it as a human thing.".
