Review of Paradise Now (2005) by Jose M — 03 Apr 2010
A gripping examination of the mentality of the suicide bombers that infiltrate Israel in order to exact revenge on the oppressive occupation of the West Bank. It is certainly a superb character study, and really gives some profound insights into why these people do what they do, but in the end, it seems rather incomplete and muted.
I got the notion that it could have been something better than what it was. While you can definitely empathize with the two protagonists, who are excellent in their roles; you cannot help but muse on the futility of their actions, and for that, I think it's a film that somehow rings hollow, in spite of it's definite merit as commentary.
