Review of Paradise Lost 2: Revelations (2000) by Hunter D — 10 Dec 2007
Picking up a few years after the first documentary, "Revelations" follows the new developments in the case of the West Memphis Three, as well as the antics of John Mark Byers, and the activists dedicated to freeing the Three.
The movie definately makes the suggestion that Byers, who acts like a complete madman in the movie (though some scenes with him are very sad) definately could have been somehow involved with the crime, however all it comes down to is suggestion, and nothing more.
To indicate that it MUST HAVE BEEN Byers that killed the children would be to go about the same line of thinking that got Echols, Baldwin, and Misskelly in the horrible situation that they have found themselves in, which is actually intelligently stated by one of the activists in the film.
While the filmmakers haven't found themselves with the incredible access they had with the first film, they have still made the movie completely engrossing and interesting to watch. However, the saga of the WM3 is far from over, so I sincerely hope that Sinofsky and Berlinger make another film that further documents the developments in the case that are going on now, and continue to do so until the book closes on the case itself, or its subjects.
