Review of Paprika (2006) by Adam W — 13 Oct 2008
Paprika is a really engaging and is sure to please fans of Satoshi Kon's previous films and shows like Perfect Blue, Millenium Actres, and Paranoia Agent. Actually, it may be too much like his previous works by focusing so much on the inner worlds of characters and the materialization of their anxieties in the real world.
Paprika is beautifully animated and equals the creativity and emotionality of a Hayao Miyazaki film. The subtleties of the plot are somewhat difficult to follow: as the myastery unravelled I thought a few character relationships would be developed, but I was reading into things a bit much.
Definitely worth a second viewing.
