Kon Satoshi's Paprika is a hybrid of high-tech, crime drama and adventure about a dream machine for patient therapy that's stolen. Thanks to the perp, people can be sent into dreams, suddenly speaking in crazy rants and causing accidents. With surreal, bizarre dream sequences, demonstrated by a marching parade of Japanese cultural icons such as frogs, maneki-nekos, toriis, and dolls, it's less dark than Perfect Blue.

Detective Konokawa himself is undergoing dream theatre, aided by the precocious and feisty title character. The theft of the dream machine ties in with the company of his former classmate Shima and his colleagues, the cold ice goddess Dr. Chiba, the handsome Dr. Osanai, and the child genius in an obese man's body, Tokita.

The visuals and the danceable techno song, not to mention Paprika's lovable character make this a winner. Very spicy. :P.
