Review of Paprika (1991) by Mary E — 14 Jul 2009
It's all weirdness from the start, but in a good way. Then again, I'm quite biased towards Paprika, I do love her :D The concept is quite unique (from my point of view) and is well executed -- I've always been a fan of altered reality and our perceptions towards them (ala Philip K. Dick-ensian).
Sort of reminds me of 'A Scanner Darkly' but in a more light-hearted way, maybe that's what attracted me most to this movie -- while it borders on being dark and downright nuts, Paprika is always there to save the day. Quite a change from my last movie (Jin-Roh).
This movie probably not for everyone though, just like sushi, but keep an open mind and you'd be along for an interestingly bizarre ride.
50 and 40 minutes of my life well-spent.
