Review of Papillon (1973) by Stcenterprise . — 14 May 2011
It is a long movie about escaping yet there truly is no happy ending. The Shawshank Redemption has a better film. This film just when you think you are getting towards the end of the film there is more.
I did not realize what kind of cruel and unusual punishment that prisoners had to go through even after WWI. Some of the punishments I would even consider torture such as extremely low food given to prisons, prisoners put under isolated from sound for a number of years, lack of light, no shoes, lack of medical care, and hunting cradles.
It's a film not worth seeing a bunch of times. Unfortunately when they do escape it does not last very long and someone always puts them back into prison once more.
