Review of Papillon (1973) by George D — 30 Dec 2012
This movie is well a hidden gem, it is in my view one of Hoffmans and Mcqueens best and deserves a better viewing than it gets. I not only find the movie to be tense but also heart wrenching, as you feel what all the prisoners feel, pure and unbridled terror.
Thankfully though you are in the safe arms of the always dashing Steve Mcqueen who despite being starved to near death still manages to be cocky and just bloody amazing from start to finish. Franklin Schaffner is a genius.
