Review of Paper Planes (2014) by Callum H — 28 Jan 2015
Of simple construct comes one of 2014's most enjoyable flicks; another Australian picture which manages to capture, fun, heart and emotion in its grasp. Paper Planes announces its conventional structure from the beginning of its running time, but never loses its charm along its bumpy and desperate road. So whilst lacking finesse and anything that one could consider original (part its intriguing premise), it's the performances, the energetic writing, the imagination and the wonderful setting of outback Australia that prove to entrance the viewer and not let go until the final note.
That, and the score from Nigel Westlake is amazing.
