Review of Paper Moon (2013) by Hannah M — 01 Sep 2009
Watched this as ive never got around to it, and I read it was an inspiration for one of my new favorites: the Brothers Bloom.
This was actually really good. I can see how it inspired that and something like the Professional. the movie itself is somewhhat off the path enough to where I couldn't tell where it was going.
I think the best thing about the movie is the pov, and the directing. theres nothing really stylistic, but you can just tell it was well shot. even the choice of black and white was a good choice. its always interesting to see other eras nostalgia. this 70's riff on the depression really doesnt look all that different from movies ive seen FROM the depression, that alone makes it great. I also like how they expressed the uncertainty a child feels, ultimately being pawned by adults, but with no better choice they can sense.
