Review of Paper Moon (1973) by Orlok W — 15 Jul 2012
An adorable and lush shot of nostalgia. Ryan and Tatum O'Neill deliver a sweet father-daughter tale of grifting. Agreeing to transport otherwise-hopeless orphan Addie (Tatum), traveling salesman/huckster Moses (Ryan) finds she's an asset to his jobs in more than one way, and the pair grow together.
The story is just a tad distasteful: Depression-era period detail (or the lack thereof) bumping into '70s New Hollywood production looseness, maybe, mostly. Or it might be the strange side-story of floozy Trixie Delight and her maid Imogene.
That's wrapped up soon enough, though, and the ending that follows is very nicely bittersweet.
