Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Amy J — 07 Dec 2009
This movie made my cheeks hurt I was laughing and smiling so hard so so long!
Original and infectious quasi-documentary explores Love from the eyes of an absolutely adorable and delightfully quirky performance artist/Comedian Charlyne Yi as she interviews seemingly random people from all across the country (some of whom seem smarter then her when it comes to matters of life and the heart-essp. the little kids!:) but finds someone she might have a chance at love with in actor Michael Cera. When the documentary part slowly gives way to their (somewhat fabricated) love story the movie doesn't really lose any of it's charm or realism because both Cera and Yi are so watchable and likeable. And yes it's funny SO funny, but not in a shocking "Borat" sort of way nor in a smarmy jokey sort of way. One of the highlights are the paper puppet re-enactments of some of the interviewees love stories. Just see it! and when you do, you'll be motivated to call someone you are in Love with...or at least hope loves you!:).
