Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Klei R — 25 Jan 2010
I haven't been writing many reviews lately, and to be honest, I'm way behind in my movie watching. That's what happens when the holidays roll around, and you take a trip to France and the Grand Canyon. But, I thought I'd get back into the swing of things, and so this is the first movie I've seen since I made that decision.
I think the most interesting thing about this movie is that I couldn't quite decipher whether it was a documentary or a scripted movie. I mean, I know the Charlyne Yi / Michael Cera stuff was not real, but I think a lot of the other stuff was. It was probably the other stuff that I found most interesting.
Charlyne is supposedly doing a documentary film about love and why she can never find it, or if she's even capable of it. In the process, she starts dating Michael Cera, who essentially plays himself. The crew films all of their dates to see where things will lead.
There's a lot of cute parts. I guess Charlyne does a stage show, which I have never seen. I kind of wonder how similar this movie and her shows are. I saw her hyping this movie at Comic-con last year, and I will admit that the presentation they gave didn't really inspire me to see this film. It was very cute though - if not the best movie I've seen.
