Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Luke P — 15 Feb 2010
Probably the cutest and most adorable film you're ever likely to see, Paper Heart adopts a quasi-documentary style as it follows comedian and musician Charlyne Yi around America. She doesn't believe in love you see, and so sets off to question strangers from various walks of life about the power and magic of love.
There an eccentric and eccletic bunch, and Yi is a charming and sweet host. Her burgeoning relationship with Michael Cera is so sweetly played out, in a quirky awkward way, that you really hope it's real and not fabricated for the cameras.
Part of this films charm is that it's hard to know whats real and what isn't. Yi and director Nicholas Jasenovec break up the film with cute animated interludes which will delight or aggrevate, depending on how much quirk you can take.
Luckily I loved it. It's probably impossible to finish watching this film without a huge smile on your face. If you do, then you have a major heart defiency.
