Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Jon P — 18 Sep 2011
Part real-life documentary, part fictional rom-com, 'Paper Heart' is intriguing, offbeat and occasionally insightful. Actors Yi and Cera share a charming, youthful awkwardness, yet their scripted relationship feels empty and unconvincing when screened alongside touching interviews with real people.
'Paper Heart' is unbearably cutesy and unfortunately a very good example of indie film-making gone wrong. If that isn't enough to put you off, please note: Charleyne Yi is possibly one of the most irritating people to have ever appeared on screen.
