Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Howie V — 17 Feb 2011
A girl of substance. It's reassuring to know they still make 'em like that. There's attitude and there's sweetness. Which one do you think will benefit you in the long run? Aggression. Negativity. Deception. They're quick. They're easy. They're cowardly. Having this knowledge puts Charlyne Yi head and shoulders above her peers. She's got a problem: Charlyne doesn't believe in love? Being an intelligent young lady she pulls from a variety of sources: renownd scientists, biker bars in Oklahoma City, the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Vegas, psychics, a Family Court in Texas, old people in Little Rock, young people in Atlanta, a homosexual couple in New York City.... I'm confident that with time she'll sort it out. She's seems sincere. It's not your typical EVERYONE-LOOK-AT-HOW-DIFFERENT-I-AM type of situation. Having said that; a part of me always thought that she was secretly wishing someone would come along and prove her wrong. Typically, it's the ones who doubt a concept the most that - once convinced - become that concept's greatest proponents. It'd be a shame to make the journey and never take that leap. Love the boxing scene. A very creative date movie. Two thumbs up!
"I've only ever had one boyfriend. I thought he was all dark and mysterious and he had shadows under his eyes. But then I realized that was only because he was on drugs." - Charlyne.
