Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Alex W — 07 Mar 2013
A truly incredible piece of cinematography. Director Guillermo del Toro is an artist saying the least, the contrasting themes including the wondrous and uncharted world of the Labyrinth and the cruel, unforgiving brutality of war is simply outstanding.
As we follow Ofelia's travels through both places, we see them grow into more catastrophic or wonderful worlds, making them much more potent and alive. Work such as this reminds us that film-making is indeed a medium of art, and thus should stay that way.
