Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Moush A — 02 Nov 2013
For years now, I have been suggested to watch this, and for some reason, I have been avoiding to. The fantasy element probably being the culprit, as I compared it to some other films like 'The Golden Compass' or 'Narnia' which I abhor.
Anyway, I finally did watch it, and I was stunned. How did I miss this masterpiece! It is a masterclass in horror with a balance of gritty reality and threads of fantasy neatly layered in between. What it really is, is a dark graphic story set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, seen through the eyes of a young girl fascinated by fairy tales.
Loved it, just loved it!
