Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Jon Mikel B — 01 Aug 2014
A beautifully shot and acted film. It has a visual flare that I think no other director could top. It's a fairy tale and a film about totalitarianism at the same time, but unlike some other films ware one topic would overshadow the other, Pan's Labyrinth is written in such a way that both topics are shown with the right amount of substance. Speaking of which, even though this film has a particular style, never once did I feel it took frontsheet over the the substance. They both flowed together seamlessly.
Several films in the past have failed to do that task, Baz Lurhman is a guilty party in this case, but the filmmakers manage to make it work and for that I'm amazed. I think that after a few more viewings this will probably become one of my favorites of all time. Yes I loved this movie that much.
