Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Kaitlyn B — 14 Feb 2015
Pan's Labyrinth is one of the greatest fantasy films ever. Up in the tops with The Lord of the Rings and infinitely better than any Harry Potter or Twilight film. Simply put, this film is a cinematic master piece.
What I utterly love about this film is that it's so daring. Ask yourself, would Hollywood ever make an R rated fantasy where a weird man with eyes on his hands tries to eat people? No, they wouldn't.
Honestly everything is just perfect. The acting is actually very enchanting and intricately dark. This film haunted me the first time I saw it, and I probably wasn't even a teenager. It just blew my mind.
The production is superb and the direction is both confident and unpredictable. It's quite an exquisite film. Every time I watch it, I get chills running down my backbone and excitement creeping through my eyes.
This film is seething with so much brutality that it makes even the Excorcist look tame. This is the exact way to make a proper fantasy without all the Hollywood cliches dragging it down. This film is like a rich and decadent chocolate cake, you only have it on special occasions but when you do, life is much much better.
