Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Phillip D — 05 Mar 2015
Pan's Labyrinth is easily the pinnacle of Del Toro's impressive career. The movie is one of the most powerful foreign language films created and the subtitles don't take anything away from the film.
The world creation is incredible, managing to successfully blend fantasy and reality in a way that other movies such as Bridge To Terebithia failed to do. The social commentary is moving as well, shedding light on the horrifying actions of a Spanish government that has gone unnoticed by the historical spotlight.
Overall, Pan's Labyrinth is a highly engaging and technically pristine production that features a surprisingly fantastic child performance from Baquero and some of most notable fantasy world building of this century by Del Toro, who continues to impress with his directing prowess.
