Review of Panic Room (2002) by Bob S — 22 Sep 2010
This film is pure heart-pounding suspense about a single motherâ??s worst nightmare on her first post-divorce night in the new family home. At times, the story felt contrived with aspects conveniently placed to add to the drama; however, unique direction and multi-dimensional characters add to the filmâ??s appeal.
Fincher comes through again (literally, from the opening credits) with an original vision and creative use of angles and unexpected vantage points. Foster plays the scorned divorcee with understood frailty and underestimated anger and determination.
Whitaker is outstanding as a burglar torn between cash and his better judgement. For his supporting role, Yoakam is chilling as the unconscionable Raoul.
