Visually impressive, but marred by an uninspired plot and a bevy of ho-hum performances. Most of the movie is so dark that it's difficult to see what is happening. The audio levels vary so greatly that one strains to hear dialogue but must cover the ears during action sequences.
When the monsters finally step into the light their previously scary appearance turns to almost silly and less than scary. After a while it feels like a sci-fi horror video game with the interactive bits removed.
