Review of Pandorum (2009) by Joseph C — 13 Jan 2012
This movie started out pretty good with the presentation of a dark, mostly abandoned spacecraft and an astronaut that couldn't even remember his own name, let alone why he was put on the ship or what happened to its power or to the rest of its crew.
Unfortunately, from here, the film quickly spirals downward as one ridiculous thing after another presents itself to characters on board the ship. The only real plot twist comes at the very end of the film, leaving the rest of the movie nothing but a boring, drawn out, unoriginal mess of ideas taken from other sci-fi movies.
All in all, it's a confusing, incoherent, ridiculous piece of garbage that probably should have never been made. While the art direction and cinematography and effects were awesome, this is yet another standing proof that, like Avatar, effects and camera tricks do not make a movie.
It ends up being nothing but a loud, obnoxious, and stupid film that I actually found myself yawning more than normal and constantly checking my watch to see when the damn thing will be over. Watch it if you want, but if you like good sci-fi, don't expect anything spectacular from this one.
