Review of Pandorum (2009) by Angelina C — 10 Oct 2012
I have always believed that a good horror Sci-Fi is like a mini skirt. Short enough to be interesting and long enough to cover the essentials. 1 hour and 48 mins! A long, complicated, uneventful, uninteresting movie this turned out to be. A poor man's Event Horizon. Pandorum is a psychological condition experienced by people in a spacecraft which is caused by a long hibernation and results in paranoia. Apparently the illness begins with quivering hands and then culminates with hysteria and violence.
The set is being swamped in darkness ALL THE TIME. There is no building of suspense instead the movie relies on the clunking noises in the dark, the blur of flailing limbs punctuated with flashes of slobbering mutant. Zombies/mutants like creatures which loves to chop and munch on humans endowed with messy eating habits. Here, they are in Road warrior gear. Yawn. Ben Foster is quite alright, one of the few actors that can express themselves physically without appearing to over-act. Cam Gigandet pouted like a schoolboy while throwing a hissy fit and Dennis Quaid?well.. just muttering his lines and thinking Paycheck paycheck!!The movie does have, however, had one of the creepiest, most intriguing movie poster. Duped, I was.
