Review of Pandorum (2009) by Raphael R — 27 Oct 2010
This film seems to have had a great premise. But something went wrong along the way. I don't think the film made full use of its potential. It just wasn't as disturbing enough, not frightening enough. The film has elements that are found in 'body horror' films such as alien and the fly as well as elements of a psychological thriller; yet it doesn't make full use of it. The action scenes were found everywhere in the film, but in some ways it detracts from the horror of the film. It also takes away some of the heart of the film. It just ended up turning it into an action film. Action films are good, but there are tons of other action films out there. So much so, that this film doesn't really stand out from that bunch.
The action was okay, but what can you really spot about the character's personalities and eccentricities when they are just constantly moving from one scene to the next? In the end, I felt they lacked personality. I never got to know that much about them.
The setting and special effects were good. The idea of mankind's Noah's ark, it's seed for the future on a new planet is also the source of its first corruption.
