Review of Pandorum (2009) by Nick P — 21 Dec 2010
Pandorum for some reason was very much overlooked by the general public. I honestly never heard of the movie till a week ago, but after watching five times since, it angers me how this film was not properly recognized. This film was full of tension that kept snowballing until hope and understanding filled you with its climactic and surprising ending.
This movie also possessed ungodly amounts of imagination. The title of the movie, Pandorum, a fictional psychological condition that brings about hostile insanity. Earth is so uninhabitable, that gas masks are required for its 26 billion people. Enzymes that would help us adapt to any sort of foreign conditions on the new Earth cause the passengers to adapt to the ship. Even the simple technologies like the cranks used to power up minor computer consoles. There was nothing in this movie that did not make me feel I was watching the future, as well as blow my mind.
Sure, I suppose the action scenes are moderate, and apparently nobody can overlook the fact that the decent also used humanoid like monsters. What most people do not get is how the monsters were not the reason the movie was made. This movie was meant to provoke thought about topics like sanity, the life span of the human race, the treatment of nature, overpopulation, space travel, the detrimental effects of biotechnology, as well as the completely ignored religious references.
This was one of the finest films made in years, it very much pisses me off how a movie like this barely gets by with two stars, while cliche movies like Avatar soars to the top of our culture.
