Review of Pandorum (2009) by Michael V — 18 Nov 2011
I have to say this movie was better than I expected. It's like Aliens and Resident Evil had a love child. The acting was good without going over the top. Of course Dennis Quaid is a great actor but I really liked watching Ben Foster.
This guy is going to be a powerhouse one day and I was thrilled to see him as a main character. I loved the way this movie started; guy wakes up from hyper-sleepâ¦his memory is not fully functional from such a long extended sleep, but knows that things aren't right.
I thought the story was great in that they did not over-explain everything like they have in so many sci-fi movies but left you without any real plot holes. The story was inventive, and the ending was very good without being so trivially expected.
Special effects were good but did not need to be over the top because the story was solid. You felt you were on the ship. Alone in the dark. Dank atmosphere. Strange noises. You felt clostrophobic at some points.
On a side note. The preview did suggest an Event Horizon rip-off. Which in itself was a rip-off of The Shining. But this movie is far from that. I'd say a similar setting but not an Event Horizon rip-off.
Which is a great movie too.
