Review of Pan (2015) by Jazzmin M — 03 Aug 2016
Why? Why didn't I see The Martian? Why oh why?! This is probably the most disappointing film of 2015. Actually, I was quite exited for this film. I enjoy the Peter Pan stories and an origin story for Peter was pretty interesting.
So I bought a ticket, sat down, and boy, I wish I hadn't. There are so many things wrong with this film. The characters are so boring. I wasn't invested in any of them. The story is so bland and recycled.
The comedy felt extremely forced. There's also weird things like the Indians not being actual Indians. Just like Katara and Sokka in The Last Airbender, Tiger Lily is played by a Caucasian actress.
How come they don't cast Native American actors in Native American roles in Hollywood? Tinker Bell is hardly in the film. The acting is sort of fine, I guess, but nothing noteworthy. Levi Miller tries his best, but his performance just comes off as mediocre.
Hugh Jackman is over-the-top silly. The visuals are actually nice, so it's visually appealing, but aside from that, Pan is just a dull waste of time to me. I didn't like it. It could've been good.
It really could've worked, but sadly it didn't, at least to me.
