Review of Pan (2015) by Gareth W — 14 Feb 2016
Finally I had the opportunity to watch this new version (or whatever you want to call it) of the adventures of Peter Pan. I liked it and thought the only big disappointment was the avalanche of CGI that I personally dislike most of the time in films nowadays.
Appart from that, the lead kid actor was convincing enough and Hugh Jackman delivered one of his most Baroque performances, going a little crazy but turning his character into a very solid and entertaining pirate desperate for keeping his youth by consuming fairy dust.
Some elements of the films reminded me of Dune, intended or not, I could't stop thinking about that book while I was watching this film. I heard it tanked badly at the domestic box office and wonder why because it's not worse than most of the dull and dumb flicks that we get month after month from Hollywood.
I enjoyed the angle of approach for telling the story in a new engaging way. Sure it's not a perfect film, but it was never boring and very well shot with some amazing camera moves and a quite exquisite cinematography.
