Review of Palo Alto (2014) by Sunil K — 01 Jun 2014
Mostly juvenile and hollow, a small light shines through moody direction and a decent soundtrack. While it has potential to go places, it never fully realizes itself as we are given a film about teenagers who partake in expected stupid behavior and show no real quality in the sense of coming of age or portraying teen angst.
Emma Roberts really shows talent as she leads the film, but some of its other great actors are sadly wasted, Val Kilmer being the one who is underused the most. His small moments in the film are among the best.
For mindless teenagers, this could certainly be a bible for the tragically hip, but for most adult moviegoers, its lack of real depth will be obvious.
