Review of Palindromes (2005) by David D — 09 Jun 2007
I really enjoyed the way Solondz had fun with this one. He, of course, never loses the dark moments and the freaks and perverts, but the touch is much lighter here. Anyone living in contemporary culture, surrounded by absurdity, can either laugh, cry, or laugh through the tears, and I think this film, which is essentially about the ways we cope, is the best reflection of that.
Solondz is the master of making you laugh at the taboo, but if you can't find humour in the horrifying, you're probably not going to like this one.
