Review of Pale Rider (1985) by Andrew K — 31 May 2007
Along the lines of High Plains Drifter. I have a big soft spot for Clint Eastwood Westerns.
This time the Man With No Name is back looking for revenge again. The supporting cast of protagonists is quite good. Hull is unsure of himself at first. Sarah doesn't know who to marry. Megan reminds me a bit of of the True Grit girl. However, the list of antagonists falls a bit flat. Random goons and deputys get shot. Daddy LaHood is pretty well done while his son is just some hot shot. Stockburn isn't much; he's like a bland Lee Van Cleef.
But Clint, wow, he really shines. His character dominates as it always does. His demeanor and facial expressions always contribute to his character and leave the viewer guessing as to who he really is. The supernatural themes are apparent at times while other times we have to guess.
Very nice.
