Review of Pale Rider (1985) by Rhyne P — 23 Jun 2007
In 1985, Eastwood's skill as a director hadn't matured to the point that it did in 1992's Unforgiven. Here, Eastwood tries so hard to re-create the Man with No Name in a mythic, apocalyptic genre, which drags the movie along with a mix of odd characters, an odd story, and even stranger pacing.
This is the most mediocre of the movies associated with Eastwood's no-name persona. If you want great no-name action, just watch the Leone originals and gasp and their beauty. If you want a decent second-rate experience, rent the pleasantly dark "High Plains Drifter.
