Review of Pal Joey (1957) by Jen P — 27 Dec 2007
Pal Joey follows hapless night-club singer Joey Evans (Sinatra) in his attempt to create a nightclub of his own. This is a blessedly low key musical and the music is first class (The Lady Is a Tramp, Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered, My Funny Valentine).
Casting and performances are a let down though. Sinatra is capable, but he doesnâ??t seem to be trying and Kim Novak is unconvincing and probably miscast. Rita Hayworth is all class, but we see too little of her.
