Review of Pain & Gain (2013) by Sean W — 21 Jun 2014
This was actually much worse that I thought it would be.
It's possible to take a movie about tragedy, make it into a dark comedy, and have it work, but you have to have some kind of respect and understanding of the events and the people. You also have to have some kind of respect and understanding for humanity as a whole, which this movie is completely devoid of. It feels like the story is a backdrop for Bay to play with whatever he wants, fast cars, action, and objectifying all women. He doesn't have any sense of style or passion for anything other than making movies for himself, and the terrible thing about this movie is, he managed to do that to actual tragic events. Come on Bay. Have some respect.
