Review of Pain & Gain (2013) by Simon T — 18 Aug 2015
No wonder this film was so crap!
It seemed like a good idea. It had good actors. Mark Wahlberg can usually be great. As I was watching it I was getting annoyed. Wasn't sure if it was the supposedly stupidity of the characters/ story or just how badly it was translated.
OK, we get it, it's based on a real story. They're real stupid, so throw some comedy in there to make us like the characters or to laugh at them. But that doesn't happen. You wait and wait. It wasn't until today that I was watching something on YouTube that was talking about Michael Bay that I realised this was one of his films. And that's what takes me back to my initial statement.
Bay's films are only good for kids. There's a lot going on visually, but he doesn't focus on the story. It's all about the visuals. This is supposed to be a look at bunch of real life crooks who were super stupid. The plot makes for a comedy or evil dark drama. Bay isn't good at either of those or any sort of story telling. His films are like wallpaper. You glance at it and approve its colour or pattern and that's it. Neither memorable nor intriguing. God Damn Michael Bay! Argh!
Hey Actors, hers a tip, don't work with him!
