Review of Pain & Gain (2013) by Walkabout_88 — 05 Feb 2015
Up to Pain & Gain, it was virtually impossible to understand how aware Michael Bay had become of the way his work was often perceived. This feature does feel like the film of his lifetime. Aided by a clever and funny script, its direction combines all the visual traits you’d expect from a Michael Bay film and more than once clearly makes fun of them.
Openly unapologetic and self-indulgent, Pain & Gain clearly shows how genuinely entertaining Bay’s films could be, once freed from the franchise logic.
