Review of Pain & Gain (2013) by Kellie G — 13 Dec 2013
"Are you a Do-er or a Don't-er?".
An ultra-kinetic, insanely stylish, searingly unbelievable, action-packed and utterly hilarious piece of cinematic madness. Pain And Gain is the mind-blowingly ridiculous true story of Donny Lugo and his maddeningly insanely over the top obsession with the American dream. Pain And Gain is an arenaline-infusing, muscle-bound, twistedly hilarious, astonishingly action-packed and downright disturbing piece of explosively intense cinema. Director Michael Bay (The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys, All of the "Transformers" films, The Island) takes a leap of faith outside of his ridiculously mega-budgeted blockbuster action films, and comes with this highly enjoyable albeit bloody and disturbing true story. Bay continues to amaze and is starting to show that he is an elite A-List Director that has more range than just all-out action films. There is not much left to say about this film, its so unbelieveable and inexplicable that you just have to see it for yourself.
The cast is loaded with great performances anf awesome comedic chemistry throughout. With convincingly odd, yet hilarious performances from Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnsom, Anthony Mackie, Tony Shaloub, Ed Harris and Rob Corddry. Its a Michael Bay film through and through and its guaranteed to leave your jaw agape, no doubt about it.
