Review of Paheli (2005) by Dannielle A — 09 May 2008
Aesthetically pleasing and heavily influenced by eastern religion, this movie handles the sacredness of marriage sacrilegiously. While I enjoyed the spectacle and the movie was sprinkled with light humor, vibrant with bright colors, exciting music and dancing.
.. I did not care for the message. One thing is for sure, it causes one to think deeply about who sinned in this movie. Should the husband have left his new bride? Should the wife have cheated on her husband, even though he was physically and emotionally detached for five years? The movie justifies this sin and the audience is supposed to cheer for the deceiver and adulterer, not the husband who is innocent.
