Review of Paddington (2014) by Justin F — 14 Mar 2015
Lovely film that is touching and also at times very funny. It has something for youngsters and adults alike with some good action sequences.
Paddington is forced to flee his home in Peru after what is probably the result of deforestation. A relative puts him on a boat to London after a visit many decades before from a British explorer who regaled them with stories of how welcoming and friendly it was. Upon his arrival he discovers that life in a big city can be distant and cold. That's until he meets the Browns who whilst suspicious of him in the beginning learn to accept him as a part of the family. I'm of an age and nationality that grew up with Paddington Bear and have always been a fan. This film certainly does it justice but I don't think that you have to be aware of the series to enjoy it.
The cast is very good and I'm beginning to like Sally Hawkins in almost everything she turns her hand to. It has a good villain in Nicole Kidman (obvious comparisons to Cruella deVille) but one minor criticism is that I didn't think that there was enough of her.
