Review of Paddington (2014) by Chris M — 11 May 2015
Having grown up with the 5-minute teatime tales narrated by Sir Michael Hordern, I was apprehensive about this live-action-CGI version before I saw it.
I was completely mistaken, as this is a joyous recreation of the spirit of the original stories, with a terrific back-story that explains how Paddington came to England from Darkest Peru, and more than a hint of how we are all enriched by the diversity of outsiders living among us.
Loads of slapstick moments, Nicole Kidman camping it up, some proper threat, a host of supporting cast members from Children's Telly, and lovely performances all round, especially Ben Wishaw as the bear himself. A great family film.
