Review of Paddington (2014) by Troy F — 21 Jul 2015
You don't get many family oriented films these days that are as fun and good-spirited as Paddington. In a time where movies are overly fluffed, Paddington deals with a genuinely good story of a bear from Peru that tries to find his place in London after losing his home to an earthquake.
It's emotionally charged and though the film does deal with a cliche family dynamic where everyone is dysfunctional until that "someone" pops into their life, it's the character of Paddington that is made loveable in how his curiosity causes mischief, yet has a kind heart and well-intended manners that make him very likeable.
We do get that villain plot that serves for the film's obstacles, and it's done in a silly, but well done fashion that is justified within the roots of the story rather than just thrown in as filler to move the story.
Paddington is nothing much beyond be a simple, light family film, but it's harmless and its charms work effectively.
