Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Isa K — 24 Mar 2018
To bee honest the first Pacific Rim was so bad I didn't intend to see this one. The excuse of 'we don't need proper characters, we have giant robots' was a weak one. I'm glad that I went and saw the Uprising, though, god am I glad.
Characters with an actual character, none of the awkward budding-romance-but-not del Toro serves, young actors for young people (old otakus are not the only audience here) and the plot that, albeit predictable, has some nice twists.
It actually took and filled some plot holes of the first one and built on them. And now WE CAN HAVE CHARACTERS WITH PERSONALITIES HOLY COW! The only thing that del Toro could have brought on board was the striking visual quality he's so very good as, I am glad this movie was taken out of his hands, I am willing to sacrifice the grand vistas for having - well, everything else.
