Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Slade T — 07 Apr 2018
Well... This movie is a rising star type movie. The term rising star pertains to actors that are fairly new such as John Boyega and Scott Eastwood. There is a girl that I totally forgot her name but my whole point is these actors have not solidified amongst the wider audience that they should go watch their movies.
Seasoned Vets are Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep, Viola Davis and Denzel for example. Yes the latter performers are much older yet even youngin actors like Michael B. Jordan and Dylan O'Brien demand mass audiences based on their performances.
John Boyega is widely known for one character in the Star Wars franchise. He has a sense of the ideal that he has made it even though making it is not based off one role from one franchise. Yes he is talented and all that stuff yet his acting chops with different roles has yet to be proven.
For example if Wil Smith only did Fresh Prince of Bel-Air then it wouldn't be as great. But Will did Bad Boys and Independence Day. Both blockbusters and both different roles. Top it off with MIB and you have a real star.
Let's move onto Scott Eastwood. His up and coming is based on being the son of Clint Eastwood. The ironic thing about Pacific Rim is that John Boyega's character repeated the phrase I am not my father.
This was reference to Idris Elba's character In the prior film. We all know Clint Eastwood as an icon who glorified Westerns and vigilante justice in Dirty Hairy. But what is Scott known for? He has yet to find his stride.
Because for now he is living in his dad's shadow. It's a pretty big shadow. It's an anthem for any actor who has a parent actor that was a superstar. Unfortunately most audiences can't relate because most of America let alone the world the offspring have gone leaps and bounds pas their parents.
The idea of family was thrown around in this movie like a hot potato. Yet most of it was not believable. It was a power ranger knock off especially since it was such a younger cast. So yea you can watch this movie if you want but I had to give it two stars at best.
Cheers and happy movie watching!
