Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Compi24 — 02 Apr 2018
Like a lot of other recent sequels, "Pacific Rim: Uprising" juggles too many new elements, world-builds to a fault, and squanders the core facets of what made the original so enticing. The characters, the action, and the stakes are all downgraded considerably in this.
Plus, there's one really unfortunate narrative risk taken here that pans out so horribly, it almost breaks the movie. Almost. Thankfully, the effects, the performances, and the world that was so brilliantly staged by Guillermo Del Toro back in 2013 ultimately make the movie watchable.
And I can't say I really regret the watch.
