Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Dharma — 28 Mar 2018
Having an Oscar caliber director on its previous iteration, the first Pacific Rim combines some kick ass action sequences with a lot of heart. Del Toro's 'magic' is severely missing in this competent, yet 'lesser' sequel.
Boyega is a better lead than Hunham that's for sure, and the final action sequence is gleeful in your 'anime style' kind of way. However, the overall package feels slight and lacking in the vibrancy and spirit of the original.
It feels like they are there to sell action figures (and lo and behold, some great 'toys' by top toymaker Bandai).
