Review of Pacific Rim (2013) by Victor M — 24 Mar 2015
This feels like the third movie in a trilogy where the first two movies have inexplicably disappeared. So they tell you the plots of those movies in a poorly written narrative that skips all the good parts of the story. Visually stunning action sequences, but a premise that is extremely dumb and unbelievable. Every point of the plot and script is asinine. Have they never heard of missiles? They are cheaper than giant robots and work a lot better. And why do you need the mind meld things, when you are just piloting them with normal controls anyway? And how can 8 helicopters carry a robot the size of an aircraft carrier? And why the hell would they go out of their way to point out that the Jaegers are built without any alloys when good alloys are incredibly stronger and lighter than iron? That's not just being stupid, that's going out of your way to be a moron.
Still, it manages to be an enjoyable movie.
