I liked "Pacific Rim"...but I wanted to love it. I think the problems come right down to the script, which seems like it was a really long script that got cut down in editing..but bits and pieces of mostly cut storylines remained.

Theres this weird Father-Son moment between two guys that feels like the payoff to a story that we never saw. There is also probably too many characters, specifically too many generic blonde guys that look so similar that I couldn't tell them apart.

The best characters are probably Charlie Day as the more rebellious scientist, and Burn Gorman as the more stuffy scientist. The movie should've focused in on those two, or at least Day, or made the robot fighter guys something less generic.

There were a lot of neat ideas, some great world building, and it was a giant monster movie that didn't feel the need to show the destruction of the same iconic buildings and landmarks as so many other big blockbuster movies do these days.

There is destruction, but it never feels too excessive. I liked the look of the movie, the effects were great, and there were some neat ideas...it just fell short in the character development, felt rushed in some places, and felt dragged out in a few others.

Had this had a stronger, tighter script, I think it would've been a real treat.
